Castles of the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea by Bike
(djd). There are two things cyclists don't like: steep mountains and urban traffic. Both are not present on the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast. Fortunately. For this purpose, there is an outstandingly expanded cycle path system. Experiencing the interaction of steep coasts and seaside baths, Hanseatic cities and coastal forests, lighthouses and sea bridges on wheels is much more intense, direct and, last but not least, more sustainable than by car. So it's no wonder that the Baltic Sea region has now developed into an oasis for active holidaymakers. Statistically speaking, you will encounter a castle on every square kilometer. Bothmer Castle

Restored castles like a string of pearls
The 38-kilometer route past castles and through villages in Klützer Winkel, between the Hanseatic cities of Wismar and Lübeck, is an enjoyable round tour. Here the eye expects a dreamy hilly landscape with a view of the Baltic Sea and a lot of history to touch. The tour begins in the traditional swimming pool Boltenhagen. The well-preserved spa architecture and the well-tended beaches are particularly noticeable from the bike. We continue to Klütz, from a distance you can see St. Mary's Church, built in 1330, with its red tower, known as the "Red Bishop's Cap". The next stop is the largest baroque palace complex in Northern Germany: Bothmer Palace. With its romantic paths, meadows and squares as well as the 250-year-old Festonallee made of trellised linden trees and trimmed, the park has been the backdrop for the musical summer festivals in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 1992. From the (second) most beautiful gardens out onto the Baltic Sea
We will continue on to the Gutshaus Stellshagen, which is now run as a biohotel with a feel-good oasis. From there to the Kalkhorst palace , which is located in the middle of a 13 hectare park with English history and garden art, which was recognised as the second most beautiful park in Germany, particularly because of its extraordinary wealth of species. In Elmenhorst, the next stop on the route, a visit to the village church with the "twisted" tower and a stopover in the Steinbeck courtyard shop with café is recommended. The Court is a paradise for children, enjoyers and those seeking rest. While the little ones are exploring the farm, the big ones enjoy homemade cakes.
The viewing point of Kleinklützhöved is located directly on the coast, with a wide view of the Baltic Sea and the Boltenhagen Baltic Sea Bath. Anyone staying here can reward themselves with fresh fish from the fisherman Dunkelmann, who takes his guests to the Baltic Sea early in the morning.
