Deutsche Fachwerkstraße by bike

Lots of half-timbered houses and a lot of cycling fun

Explore the German Half-Timbered House Route on 3900 km.

(djd). Around 3,900 kilometers on the bike are long. Therefore, active vacationers have to decide which of the seven regional routes of the German Half-Timbered House Road they want to go first. They are all attractive. Along the holiday route, which leads from the Elbe in the north via Upper Lusatia in eastern Saxony to Lake Constance in the south, there are more than 100 pretty half-timbered towns with many sights.

Cycle from Elbe to Harz

Cyclists can discover the respective regional route on a wide variety of tours, depending on their desire, fitness and length of vacation. In the north, for example, you can take the regional route "From the Elbe to the Harz" from Osterode via Duderstadt to Einbeck. The city is famous for its brewing tradition and its very well preserved medieval center with richly decorated half-timbered houses. There are many other sights along the 118 kilometer route - for example the university town of Göttingen, Plesse Castle and the Baroque Hardenberg Castle with its picturesque park or the old half-timbered town of Northeim with the unique Theater of the Night.

Costume tours, raft rides and festivals

The ten stages of the regional route "From the Weser Uplands via North Hesse to Vogelsberg and Spessart" also promise great experiences. Stations that invite you to take a longer stop are, for example, Hann. Münden with its famous Weser Renaissance town hall, Eschwege with 1,000 half-timbered buildings alone in the old town or Homberg an der Efze, where the castle hill entices with its overwhelming view. It is worthwhile to leave the bike behind. For example, for a raft trip on the Fulda near Melsungen or for a visit to the fairytale house in Alsfeld. In many cities, costume tours are offered and in the evening there are festivals like in Bad Hersfeld.
