Pan-fried Tarte Flambée

by Doreen Düe | Food blogger with camper van

Once a year, we leave our blue box van in Portugal for a few weeks and fly to Germany to visit our families. This creates tiny traditions. If we're a brother and family guest at the "taster", there's flambée! We roll out lots of dough together and in the end there are mountains of delicious tarte flambées, which are also enough for the next day.

Short preparation time

Of course, I immediately asked myself how to bake a tarte flambée in a motor home without an oven? Does it work just as well as a pizza in the pan? The tarte flambée is very thin, doesn't it burn immediately? And at some point, pretty much in the middle between 2 tarte flambée visits in Germany, I wanted it! So this is the best chance to try it in the pan.

Baking tarte flambées in the pan works perfectly! As the tarte flambée dough does not require yeast, it is ideally suited for a quick meal without long preparation time. This is a clear advantage of the pizza dough, which takes time to rise.

The dough is crispy and thin, the apple slices harmonise wonderfully with the light sharpness of the vegetable onions and the strong cheese rounds off this tarte flambée wonderfully! After baking, I distributed a few leaves of parsley and a few dots of sour cream on the tarte flambée and it was simply perfect!

Ingredients
for 1 large tarte flambée or 2 small

For the dough

175 g flour
2 tbsp olive oil
90 g lukewarm water
1 pinch of salt

for the topping

1 apple
1 vegetable onion
4 tbsp sour cream
50 g thick cheese
parsley
pepper
salt

1
For the topping, cut the apple and onion into thin slices and grate the cheese.
2
Mix all the ingredients for the dough together in a bowl and then knead it vigorously on the work surface.
In the end, you should get a smooth dough.
3
Roll it out to pan size and place it in your pan.
If you want to bake two small tarte flambées, divide the dough beforehand.
4
Place the lid on the pan and bake the tarte flambée on the highest heat without topping for 3 minutes.
Then switches off the hob.
5
Flips the shutter so that the attached side is facing up.
6
Spread 3 tbsp of sour cream on the flatbread and distribute the apple and onion slices on top.
7
Season everything with pepper and salt and sprinkle the flakes with the grated cheese.
8
Place the lid on the pan and bake the tarte flambée on a small flame for 10 minutes.
The baking time depends somewhat on your pan and the heat output of the stove.
9
Meanwhile, chops the parsley.
10
Spread 1 tbsp. sour cream in patches on the finished tarte flambée and sprinkle with the chopped parsley.
11
Serve immediately and enjoy immediately.

Tips:

  • We've already filled the tarte flambée like a pizza: with tomatoes and cheese sprinkled with rocket. Tastes wonderful!
  • Classic topping can of course also be used with bacon and spring onions
Proof: Baking tarte flambées works wonderfully in the pan. Yeah!
