The Cross Cabin Van is the result of extensive discussions with seasoned digital nomads, freelancers, and remote-working professionals. The concept, unveiled in spring, garnered widespread excitement, further emboldening Alpine to proceed with the project. Based on a Ford Transit chassis, the production vehicle is designed for two individuals and flawlessly melds design and functionality. Thanks to numerous ingenious interior solutions, this compact van offers astonishing space that can stylishly accommodate work, meetings, living, sleeping, and relaxation, all in one.
The entirely novel and multifunctional interior design draws inspiration from the principles of Japanese minimalism and aesthetics through order. As a result, stepping into the Cross Cabin immediately evokes a sense of spaciousness and comfort. The textured wall cladding, crafted from acoustic panels, serves as both an innovative design element and clever storage solution: Concealed almost invisibly behind are cabinets and storage options, integrated light elements for personalized ambiance, and an innovative multi-zone sound system. Towards the rear, these panels seamlessly transition into a face-to-face seating area. Adding to the unique sense of well-being, the consistently level vehicle floor is adorned with Japanese tatami mats. In true Japanese fashion, another highlight of the vehicle is ingeniously integrated into the floor.
The centrepiece of the Cross Cabin is the "Smart Table": When not in use, this table hides in the floor and can be folded up to serve either as a large desk, conference table or dining table. The middle part of the table top can be opened to reveal a 27-inch monitor and an integrated keyboard. By connecting a conventional laptop, a professional working environment is created. A fast and stable mobile internet connection is essential for mobile office work: the Cross Cabin is therefore equipped with the mobile router "Alpine x alphatronics STREAM", which is 4G- and LTE-capable with its external antennas and thus enables perfect video conferences in HD quality, video streaming and cloud-based work. The vehicle cabin is soundproofed from the outside world to ensure interference-free video conferencing even in busy places or in heavy rain. The innovative LED lighting concept in the interior creates the desired ambience at all times.
The working area can be turned into a cosy living and dining area within seconds by simply folding the "Smart-Table" shut. Up to 4 people can sit on the face-to-face seating area and enjoy the particularly pleasant part of their workation.
The table behind the swivelling driver's seat can also be used for eating or as a second workstation.
With the desk neatly tucked away, nothing will remind you of the working day in an instant. After an eventful evening at the beach or in the mountains, the living area transforms into a full lengthwise bed by folding out the two bench seats. Together with the 1.45m x 1.95m mattress, this creates a comfortable double bed that invites you to dream.
Cooking in the Cross Cabin is a special experience: the entire kitchen unit can be swivelled out of the side door by 90 degrees and electrically lowered to the ground. This effortlessly creates an outdoor kitchen that invites you to cook in the open air with the practical induction hob. The elegant kitchen unit also includes a sink and a 70-litre 'Dometic' compressor fridge that is accessible from both sides.
Due to the optimal use of space, the 6.70 m long Cross Cabin has a spacious wet room that blends in completely harmoniously and unobtrusively with the interior. The bathroom has a full shower with washbasin as well as an integrated 'HEKI' roof light. When showering, the waterless 'Clesana' toilet is simply pushed under the bench seat and retrieved when needed.
An 'Autoterm' diesel auxiliary heating system as well as an electric 6-litre water boiler from Pundmann (heated by the diesel auxiliary heater, 12 volts with 200 watts and/or 220 volts with 500 watts) provide warmth in the Cross Cabin. The fresh water tank holds 65 litres, the grey water tank 60 litres.
The Cross Cabin Van has been designed to operate without a power connection for up to 3 days under normal working conditions. Power management is facilitated by a CombiMaster 12/2000-60, a charger-inverter combo rated at 230V - 100 A. An optional 200- or even a 400-ampere system is also available. This allows for the use of both standard household appliances via 230-volt outlets and the 800W induction cooktop in the kitchen. Moreover, a DC-DC charger replenishes the onboard batteries at a rate of 50 amps while driving. The control and monitoring of power and water supply are overseen by an 'Arvikon' control module, which can be operated from the driver's seat via the Alpine iLX-F115D or through an external 7-inch touchscreen within the interior space.
An important element in the Cross Cabin is the ALPINE Halo11 with its 11-inch screen. In addition to the sound system, all important functions of the body can be conveniently controlled via this central multi-media station using a graphical user interface via touch.
The system's connectivity ranges from battery management to fill level indicators for fresh and grey water, heating and air conditioning settings, lighting control and many other options.
The Cross Cabin's multi-zone sound concept is custom-tailored to the diverse array of applications, both during work and leisure. It delivers musical delight and impeccable voice clarity throughout the entire workation experience.
The built-in cabin sound system comes standard with two ultra-thin Alpine Adventure Audio In-Cabin Speakers seamlessly integrated into the wooden wall panels of the living area. Powered by an Alpine multi-channel DSP amplifier and supported by two potent concealed Alpine 8-inch subwoofers, it ensures flawless sound within the vehicle. The multi-zone sound concept allows for individual settings in both the workspace and the living area, including personalized configurations for video conferences and music playback. Optionally tucked away in a slim cabinet adjacent to the shower space is a retractable 24-inch alphatronics smart TV. This TV can rotate 180 degrees towards the direction of travel, enabling its use from all seating positions.
In the cab of the Cross Cabin, an equally high-quality, vehicle-specific sound system has been installed, providing excellent sound both while driving and stationary. The Alpine Adventure Audio System for the Ford Transit consists of a 2-way component speaker system (SPC-106TRA7) and its own 6-channel DSP amplifier as well as a subwoofer for powerful bass (SPC-D84TRA7-R). With the intricately styled stainless steel tweeter covers, the superior sound becomes literally visible.
Alpine's brand new 360-degree HD camera system and virtual bird's eye view allows the Cross Cabin driver to safely manoeuvre the vehicle when travelling and parking. This innovative camera system completely eliminates blind spots and greatly reduces the risk of costly jostling and accidents.
Via the Alpine Freeviewdigital rearview mirror, you can see what is happening behind the vehicle, just as you would in a car: The system, which acts like an ordinary rear-view mirror on the windscreen, uses a high-resolution display and a rear camera to give the driver a wide-angle rear view. This makes overtaking much safer.
With the Alpine Navi Stick, the Alpine Halo11 (iLX-F115D) can now be easily upgraded to a motorhome navigation system via USB plug-and-play, i.e. the navigation software takes into account the individually adjustable vehicle dimensions such as height, length, width and weight and can be used completely offline.
With a hotspot available in the vehicle, the Navi Stick can also process online traffic information. The combination of motorhome navigation and online traffic information is particularly helpful. In addition, the Navi Stick also offers an extensive camping database from park4night.
The Cross Cabin always cuts a fine figure, whether by the lakeside or at a business engagement. Its appearance ranges from understated to sporty, depending on the chosen configuration. The compact exterior dimensions, coupled with advanced driving assistance systems, make navigating in this class accessible even to newcomers. The base vehicle is a 6.70 m long Ford Transit (L4 H3).
Additional available vehicle options include an electrically extendable 4-metre awning, a 'TRUMA Aventa Comfort' air conditioning system, a roof rack with roof terrace, solar panels, two different Mastervolt Upgrade Packs and high-quality wheels.
