Blind spot

France requires warning notices on the motorhome

Since the beginning of the year, motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes in France have had to have warning signs for the blind spot (French: angles morts ") visible on both sides at the front and at the rear. The aim is to ensure that cyclists and pedestrians are clearly warned of the turning vehicle Again and again, these road users are overlooked and detected by drivers.

Foreign vehicles must also bear the marking; stickers or signs are permitted. They are available, among other things, at petrol stations near the border or online.

When attaching, it must be ensured that the license plates and the prescribed lettering of the vehicle remain visible. The lights and the driver's view must also not be obscured. Blind spot notices are also not permitted on glass surfaces such as the side or rear windows.

Anyone who disregards the new regulation risks a fine of 135 euros. However, a transition period will apply until the end of 2021. For the time being, motorhome drivers will only be asked to pay if they have not attached a sticker. If the warning does not strictly comply with the new standards, there is usually only a warning, but no fine is payable.
