Under the "Asparagus Route North Rhine-Westphalia" label, 140 farms throughout NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia) offer special promotions, information and special events: Anyone who sees the logo "Spargelstrasse NRW" (Asparagus Route North Rhine-Westphalia) can be sure to get quality asparagus from local production.
Fresh asparagus
"The best place to buy fresh asparagus is at the weekly market or directly from the producer," recommends the NRW Ministry of Agriculture. Numerous asparagus farms also offer fresh asparagus dishes in their restaurants. Along the Asparagus Route North Rhine-Westphalia you can experience the culinary and tourist sides of Germany.

For almost 15 years, member farms from all over North Rhine-Westphalia have not only been presenting the cultivation of the "royal vegetable" within the Asparagus Route North Rhine-Westphalia, but also providing consumers with extensive information in personal discussions, with numerous campaigns and events and with the help of the internet site www.spargelstrasse-nrw.de. Tips on purchasing, processing, storage and of course numerous tasty recipe ideas round off the offer. A clear list of all participating farms makes it easy for readers to find their local asparagus farm. Divided into the growing regions: Aachen, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Münsterland, Lower Rhine, Ruhr Area and Teutoburg Forest. Farm shops and restaurants included.
Especially for children
The members of the Asparagus Route North Rhine-Westphalia have very special offers in store for the little ones. In addition to the colouring book developed especially for children with child-friendly recipes entitled: "From the field to the plate - reading out loud and painting", various farms also invite children to experience days. Every two years, an Asparagus Queen of NRW is elected to represent asparagus in a charming way at various events and in the media. This allows asparagus to show its best side during the spring and early summer season in NRW.

Quality and freshness from the farmAsparagus from NRW has more than held its own on the market thanks to its excellent quality and unbeatable freshness. In recent years, NRW has grown into one of the main asparagus-growing regions in Germany. From the Lower Rhine to the foothills between Cologne and Bonn, via the Münsterland to East Westphalia - asparagus is cultivated wherever the climate and soil permit. A total of about 21,300 tonnes of asparagus are harvested annually by almost 360 asparagus farmers in North Rhine-Westphalia, 70 percent of which are marketed directly - absolute freshness from the field directly to the customer.
