After Passau, the river breaks through the forest of Upper Austria to East Bavaria, crosses the Linz basin and reaches the Strudengau. The Nibelungenstrasse along the Danube is rightly regarded as one of Austria's dream roads, on which one can experience testimonies of history and the magnificent landscape. Legends and historical realities are closely connected in the Nibelungenlied. This great medieval poem describes the route with such clarity that we can use the epic like a travel guide.
