Isla Canela

Isla Canela is surrounded by marshes whose channels go inland forming convoluted branches that are home to a very special flora and fauna. With a 7-kilometre long beach, crystal clear waters and a blue sky that accompanies you all year round, Isla Canela is one of the most beautiful places in Spain.

It is bordered on one side by the famous fishing village of Isla Cristina, and on the other by the Guadiana River, which forms the river border with Portugal. In fact, if you walk to the end of Punta del Moral, you will find yourself face to face with the Portuguese neighbour.

What to do in Isla Canela?

The most predictable suggestion: go enjoy the beach. The waters of Isla Canela are very shallow, which makes it perfectly easy to enjoy even with small children.

In summer, and thanks to the breeze that envelops the marshes, you can venture out for a few kitesurfing lessons. In winter, taking advantage of the calm of the low season, come to Ayamonte to catch the ferry to Portugal.

All year round, head to any of the many restaurants and bars in the Punta del Moral neighbourhood and treat yourself to fresh fish, coquinas, prawns and the occasional picadillo.

Selva de Irati

The Irati Forest is a colourful destination, determined by the season of the year. So we warn you, you will have to visit this destination more than once. 17,000 hectares of beech and fir trees, among many other trees, make up this magical forest that can even be called a jungle to match its lushness.

The Irati forest is worth a walk along its dozens of paths: long, short, accompanied by rivers, pools or waterfalls. With the family, as a couple, with friends or alone. If you are a nature lover, this is the destination for you.

What to do in the Irati Forest?

If you come to the Irati Forest through the Cize Valley, you should follow the educational path. If you do it through the Salazar Valley, the path of the senses is a great option, especially if you go with children. This is a short trail where you can learn to interpret the different plant species that you will find signposted along the way.

Another attraction is the Cascada del Cubo waterfall, a simple 2.6-kilometre-long trail. And you can't leave without walking around the perimeter of the Arabia reservoir.

With so many trails you're sure to get hungry. And you are in luck, because Navarre has some of the best market gardens in Spain. Artichokes, peppers and the famous asparagus are never missing from Navarrese tables. And if your body is craving meat, any dish made with veal from Navarre is a good choice.

And if you are still hungry, you can let yourself be guided by our suggestion to discover the Irati Forest Route.

Boca do Rio

Finally, our selection of the most beautiful places in Spain in a motorhome or campervan takes us to Galicia. Specifically to the town of Carnota, located in the estuary of Muros and Noia, the last of the Rías Baixas.

It is the wildest and most unknown area of the most visited estuaries in Galicia. And we present it to you almost gift-wrapped, because this destination is a gift for the senses.

It is the longest beach in Galicia. A coral sandy beach and turquoise waters that will transport you, momentarily, to any Caribbean enclave.

What to do in Boca do Río?

If you want to swim with your children, wait for the low tide. This is when a good number of small pools form where they can play and enjoy a safe swim. Also at low tide, take the opportunity to walk from one end to the other, along the entire length of Boca do Rio. You will feel privileged among the wild nature that surrounds you in this beautiful corner of Galicia.

Make the most of your visit to the area to see the sunset at the Baroña Hillfort, the most spectacular of all the hillforts in Galicia. The fishing village of Porto do Son is well worth a visit. And in Noia you can admire its medieval roots through its monuments.

Finally, don't miss a visit to the Muiños de marea de Pozo Chacón.

Wash down your visit with a good Albariño wine as soon as you sit down to eat at one of the terraces or restaurants overlooking the estuary. Accompany the wine with the best of the waters of the Muros and Noia estuary: cockles, mussels or scallops. And don't leave without trying the famous corn pies or the xoubas and cockles pie, which are Noia's speciality.
