Ellwangen am Jagst invites you to an active holiday on two wheels

Spring Cycling in Swabia

(djd). Delicate green leaves on trees and shrubs, birdsong and warming rays of sunshine: finally spring - and therefore time for dream trips by bike. For example, around the Swabian Ellwangen am Jagst. From the tranquil town, a network of well-developed cycle paths leads to the surrounding area of the Swabian East Album.

      Cycling to lakes and pastures

For enthusiastic cyclists and nature lovers, for example, the tour "Through forests and fields to lakes and pastures“ is a great way to escape from everyday life. Far away from busy roads, the 58 kilometre long route runs from Ellwangen through the charming landscape of Ellwang Lake Constance, past tranquil villages, small pastures and idyllic lakes. Part of the route follows the Kocher-Jagst-Radweg and almost always leads along the river. The Fischbach Lake, the Häsle Lake or the Schlierbach Lake are just a few of the waters that you pass through on the route and invite their shores to rest. Maybe one or the other will also be tempted to interrupt cycling for a small boat ride on the lake before continuing towards Ellwangen again.

      Roman triumphal monument on Limes

The Limes cycle path, on the other hand, provides interesting insights into the times of Roman settlements. The 42-kilometre tour takes cyclists from Ellwangen through the Jagsttal valley to the Dalkinger Limestor and along the Limes to the Römerkastell in Halheim. The Limestor is regarded as a unique structure on the lime route between Rhine and Danube. Since 2005, the facility, which has been expanded under Kaiser Caracalla as part of the Triumphpforte, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the entire Roman border attachment. Anyone who wants to extend the route can cycle on the Kocher-Jagst-Radweg to Rainau to the open-air museum on Rätische Limes and on to Aalen, where the largest Roman Museum in southern Germany invites them to an exploration. Further route suggestions with detailed information on the course of the route and the sights as well as bicycle maps can be downloaded as PDF files at www.ellwangen.de.

      Walk through Ellwangen

However, it is also worth leaving the bike standing and going on a viewing tour through Ellwangen yourself. The picturesque old town impresses with numerous buildings and citizenship buildings worth seeing. A visit to the advantageous castle, which runs high above the city, is just as appealing as a cultural stop in the Alamanne Museum or Sieger-Köder Museum.
