The Baden Wine Route introduces itself

Follow the road to wine

500 km long wine experience

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary, the Baden Wine Route (Badische Weinstrasse) has also been leading through the Baden wine regions of Kraichgau and Badische Bergstrasse since 2014, offering a total of 500 kilometers of pure wine experience. Numerous paths also lead from the Baden Wine Road even deeper into the Baden wine region: all the way down to Lake Constance and up to Tauberfranken, where the "Taubertal Wine Road" shows the way to wine.

1
Badische Bergstraße
“This is where Germany begins to become Italy.” This is how the Habsburg Emperor Josef II is said to have exclaimed when he drove in his carriage down Bergstrasse in the direction of Vienna, coming from Frankfurt
2
Kraichgau
In the land of 1000 wine hills there are certainly still one or the other type of wine that you do not know yet.
3
Taubertal
In the Taubertal, the motto counts: Experience the landscape and culture during the day and enjoy the wine and the culinary profile of the Taubertal in the evening.
4
Ortnau
The mild climate with 1700 hours of sunshine a year makes the Ortenau a popular holiday destination.
5
Breisgau
The heart of the Breisgau is beating in Freiburg, Germany's warmest region, where the vine has been home for more than 1,000 years.
6
Kaiserstuhl
The Kaiserstuhl probably got its name from King Otto III, who was holding a court day nearby. After this day of judgment, the whole mountain range was referred to as the “King's Chair”. After Otto III. was crowned emperor in May 996, the "king's chair" became the "emperor's chair".
7
Tuniberg
Regional specialties from the "Imperial Enjoyment" product range, e.g. walnut cake or Kaiserstühler country ice cream, go well with the excellent ones.
8
Markgräflerland
Here you not only enjoy the quiet beauty of the picturesque landscape, from wide plains to gently rolling vineyards to the low mountain ranges of the southern Black Forest, but also everything that this region has to offer with its delights.

Biking and hiking trails

Active connoisseurs can hike through the Baden wine region on foot or cycle up and down the hills by bike, mountain bike or e-bike through the idyllic wine landscape. "Ortenauer Weinpfad", "Breisgauer Weinweg", "Kaiserstuhlpfad" or "Markgräfler Wiiwegli" are the names of well-known regional wine hiking trails that, like the "Black Forest connoisseur trails", are also suitable for day trips. The cycle paths mainly lead on or along the Baden Wine Route, through vineyards and orchards and rustic wine-growing villages.

Hiking trails along the Baden Wine Route

Active wine lovers can hike the most important regions of the Baden wine region on foot! From Gernsbach in the Murgtal valley, the "wine hiking trails through the Baden wine region" lead through the Ortenau, the Breisgau and the Markgräflerland.

About 25 kilometers from Freiburg, hikers have the choice: either choose the eastern route via Glottertal to Freiburg or the western variant via Kaiserstuhl and Tuniberg. In Schallstadt, south of Freiburg, both meet again at the "Markgräfler Wiiwegli". The eastern route adds up to around 280 kilometers, the western route is around 10 kilometers longer.

The wine hiking trails in the Baden wine region follow the course of the "Ortenauer Weinpfades" from Gernsbach to Diersburg, then the "Breisgauer Weinwanderweg" to Freiburg, or from Malterdingen via Endingen the "Kaiserstuhlpfad" and the "Burgunderpfad" to Schallstadt. The "Markgräfler Wiiwegli" goes from Freiburg via Schallstadt to Weil am Rhein. The GPS data can be downloaded from the Internet.

Bike paths along the Baden Wine Route

By train and bike to Baden-Baden - and then through the idyllic vineyards to Weil am Rhein. The bike rolls a good 240 kilometers along well-developed bike paths through the Baden wine region. Up and down the hills it is winding through Ortenau, Breisgau, Kaiserstuhl, Tuniberg and Markgräflerland.

In the end, a good 300 kilometers of bike paths come together. The mostly flat bike paths lead along picturesque vineyards, through orchards and rustic wine-growing villages.

The cycle paths through the Baden wine region use regional cycle paths, but are not uniformly marked. Those who like to be guided can find the GPS data for the route on the Internet on the Schwarzwald Tourismus website. The tours are particularly enjoyable to ride on e-bikes. The Baden wine region is integrated into the Black Forest e-bike network with over 200 rental, battery charging and battery replacement stations.
