Spain is a very interesting country for camping fans because it offers so many different landscapes. From the green, temperate coasts in the north to the desert-like regions in the centre, there is much to discover. Just as varied as the landscapes is the food and drink on offer, especially wine, meat and fish. Nico Núñez has made it his mission to present this diversity of regions to visitors to Spain. We spoke to him about his company, FEFI member España Discovery.
The España Discovery journey began in 2006. Nico's wife had often camped in her childhood and was keen to do so again, but this time in a camper van. So in the summer of 2006, they ordered a guidebook from France Passion and began to discover France. From the south of the country to the Cognac region in the west of France and the Champagne region in the northeast, the family had a wonderful time, discovering all these beautiful regions with the help of the French campsite guide. After the holiday, Nico thought about starting a new business with the same concept in Spain. He asked the guys from France Passion for permission, and after they gave their okay, España Discovery was born.
Nico already knew many winemakers in the Valencia region and started creating the first edition. The response was great and so Nico set off on a journey through all the Spanish wine regions, going door to door to invite more Spanish winemakers to join his new network.
Until last year, Nico was the only one working on the magazine. But these tasks kept expanding, which is why he needed support. Now he works with his son Diego, who is responsible for everything to do with IT, and María Jose, who looks after relations with the hosts. Nico is fully committed to the expansion of España Discovery, so the two new members are a great help in his daily tasks.
The core concept remains the same as for all other members of the FEFI network. Once a year, the new magazine is published, giving you access to the hosts for a year. España Discovery specialises in the travel guide and does not offer an app. Instead, users can scan QR codes in the guidebook to get more information.
As with all other members of the FEFI network, quality is more important than quantity. But España Discovery takes this approach a step further. After strong growth in the first years, Nico analysed and reduced the number of hosts to ensure the highest possible quality and optimal experience for users. After that, he is now expanding the network step by step to include more and more high-quality hosts. We are excited to see where the journey of España Discovery will lead.
