Enjoying the mountains

Panorama Route Bergisches Land

The low mountain range of the Bergisches Land lies immediately east of Cologne in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia. The region, in which meadows and forests as well as green hills and deep valleys alternate with streams and lakes, beckons with a high level of recreational and recreational value for short vacations and excursions. Particularly fascinating are the grandiose panoramic views that are offered again and again from the mountain ranges, sometimes as far as the Cologne Bay, the Sauerland or the Siebengebirge. Small, rustic villages exude charm and convey peace and tranquility. Again and again you will find old, traditional houses and courtyards in the half-timbered and slate construction typical of the Bergisch region.

Landscapes as on postcards

Spectacular views on a short route

Wide panoramic views are quite typical in the mountainous country, which sometimes appear unexpected and sudden, but sometimes also long awaited from the many wide mountain ranges. On a trip or a hike through the Bergische Land, you will always stop fascinated and enjoy the view. They look over green hills with forests or fields, in between deep valleys with rivers and dams, as well as countless small villages and Weiler. Sometimes the view extends far beyond Cologne and the Rhine, the Sauerland or the Seven Mountains.

Throughout the year, you'll get a lot of different impressions: trees and shrubs blossom in spring. In summer, everything is dipped in juicy green and the flowers set colour accents. In autumn, the leaves colour the landscape golden and in winter the hills are dipped in a soft white.

Experience "Bergische" hospitality

Plan enough time for your tour to be pampered with the hosts. From traditional cuisine with typical Berlin dishes such as mushroom cakes or mountain waffles to sophisticated star cuisine, there is something for everyone. Don't miss the "Bergische Kaffeetafel": fresh waffles, hot cherries or red pudding with cream, black bread or grey bread with butter, sausage, cheese, sweet apple or pear cabbage, honey, quark, white bread with raisins and rice pudding with sugar and cinnamon. Fresh coffee is served from the "Dröppelmina" coffee jug. You can find an overview of where you can enjoy the Bergische Kaffeetafel at the Naturarena Bergisches Land - Die Bergische.

On a network of around 300 kilometres, predominantly on closed cycle paths, you can usually enjoy the hilly landscape simply and relaxed. Nature and beautiful views, as well as historic city centres and industrial culture, accompany you throughout your cycling tour on the "Bergische Panorama-Radweg" or the "Panorama- Radweg Balkantrasse".

The "Bergisch coffee table"

You should take your time to enjoy the variety of sweet and savory dishes: fresh waffles, hot cherries or red fruit jelly with cream, brown bread or brown bread with butter, sausage, cheese, sweet apple or pear cabbage, honey, quark, white bread with raisins and rice pudding with sugar and cinnamon.

In addition, fresh coffee from the "Dröppelmina" is served. The bulbous coffee pot is reminiscent of a large, three-legged pewter pear. “Mina” stands for Wilhelmina, the subservient spirit in the middle-class household, and “Dröppel” describes how slowly the coffee flowed through the spout, which was closed with a crane, and often dripped on.

The Bergische coffee table is offered in numerous cafés and restaurants, some in the rustic ambience of old half-timbered houses. Get an overview of where you can enjoy the Bergische Kaffeetafel.

Splashed. Fresh. From the Bergisches Land.

Haaner Felsenquelle & Bergische Waldquelle
They are unmistakably from the region, taste unique and bring the mountainous freshness to the table: As the only mineral fountain in the Bergisches Land, the Haaner Rock Source with its main brands "Haaner Felsenquelle" and "Bergische Waldquelle" is the mineral water supply for the region.

The mineral water from the Haane rock source is characterised by a balanced, light mineralisation and is recognised as a state of health. The Bergische Waldquelle is a soft and mild, non-carbonated mineral water with a particularly mild taste, which is otherwise attributed to French mineral waters. But the Bergische Waldquelle comes from the region and does not have to be transported for hundreds of kilometres. This protects the environment and protects jobs.

Regional values are particularly high and actively lived in the family-owned company, which is now being run in its third generation. This includes the commitment to the environment in the mountainous country, as well as the development of modern jobs and the promotion of regional economic cooperation.
