Journey through three wine-growing regions

Discover Baden, Württemberg and Franconia

The Taubertal Wine Route leads over a distance of 204 kilometers through the "Weinland Taubertal" and equally integrates the cultural landscape, the beautiful cities and communities, the culture and of course the winegrowers and vineyards. It is a road of relaxation and enjoyment that guests should take three to four days to explore.

1
Rothenburg ob der Tauber
The picturesque town is right at the beginning of the tour and is one of the few "picture-perfect cities in Europe".
2
Gerlachsheim
The place has just under 1,800 inhabitants, but baroque fans in particular will get their money's worth here.
3
Wertheim
Wertheim Castle, towering over the city, is the highlight of the northernmost city of Baden-Württemberg.

More than good wine

When travelling through several wine regions, it is of course clear where the focus of the tour lies. Nevertheless, the Tauber Valley also offers many reasons for a visit for nature, history and architecture lovers.

Authentic in a "Bocksbeutel"

Viticulture

Three wine-growing regions and four wine-growing districts belong to wine-growing zones A and B (the wine-growing zones are divided by EU regulation according to climatic criteria - A coldest, C warmest): Franconia/ Maindreieck and Mainviereck area, Wuerttemberg/ Kocher-Jagst-Tauber area and Baden/ Tauberfranken area. This last-mentioned area belongs to zone B and is thus the northernmost area of this wine-growing zone.

The wine producers who are at home in the Baden and Franconian parts of the Tauber Valley are allowed to bottle their wines in the famous Bocksbeutel. The Bocksbeutel is a tradition and a sign of quality.

The grape variety was already considered lost. It was not until the 1960s that some vines were rediscovered in the Vorbachtal, near Niederstetten, and the breeding revival was advanced. Landscape and culture: The landscape is characterised by rolling hills and vine-covered slopes as well as the courses of the rivers Main and Tauber. Guests can also visit eight castles, eleven palaces and six monasteries in the region.

Besides the special features in flora and fauna, the landscape is characterised by the red mottled sandstone and the grey shell limestone.
