The heavenly kingdom of baroque - Nestled in the rolling hills of the Alpine foothills, between lakes and green meadows, you can discover both magnificent and mighty buildings as well as small gems of the Baroque era.
Nothing was too expensive for the master builders of the time, and so an architecture was created that brings heaven down to earth. It is usually worth taking a closer look to discover the real works of art. Above all, the monasteries played a major role in the Baroque period. They were regarded as true centres of power, piety and knowledge.
When visiting the richly decorated library rooms in Schussenried Monastery or Wiblingen Monastery, visitors can still get an idea of the importance attached to research and knowledge during this period. Exciting themed tours take visitors back in time to the 17th and 18th centuries and bring the lives and everyday life of the people, spiritual and secular, closer.

Every August, the Baroque Week, a series of events along the Upper Swabian Baroque Route, takes place. It is then celebrated in various ways: With music from the 18th century, unusual culinary excursions or guided tours that give insight into the life and art of the Baroque period. The programme is available from Oberschwaben Tourismus GmbH.
Motorhomes can comfortably travel the four routes of the Upper Swabian Baroque Road. Many towns along the culture and holiday route have very well developed and centrally located motorhome sites.
Cosy beer gardens and Upper Swabian inns invite you to enjoy Baroque specialities. There are, for example, "Knöpfle", "Nonnenfürzle" or various local beers from regional breweries! In the local bakeries you can also still buy the "Seele", a traditional Upper Swabian pastry. It's worth trying!
