Finally a Mercedes

Eura Mobil 2020

Eura Mobil, the main brand of the three German branches of the French Trigano Group, is once again presenting a Mercedes-Benz as the base vehicle for a semi-integrated motorhome this year. It was quite a scramble. While Mercedes literally forced the new Sprinter as a base vehicle on other motorhome manufacturers, Eura Mobil from Sprendlingen did not really get a chance. Last year, the Rheinhessen group wanted to surprise the caravan salon with a semi-integrated mobile on a rolling base with a star, but only now did they reach an agreement with the sales department at Mercedes.

Now the Contura, which was previously only available with the Fiat Ducato as a substructure, is finally making its debut on a Sprinter basis. The wait seems to have been worth it, the star-harvested camper costs a comparatively low 4,000 euros more than the Italian van. The price list of the semi-integrated, which would now like to settle in the premium segment, starts at 82,690 euros.

Mercedes-Contura

Four layouts with body lengths from 7.30 to 7.90 meters are on offer; the Mercedes-Contura cannot manage the 3.5-ton class, it can weigh up to 4.5 tons. The payload is more than adequate with up to 1200 kilograms, especially since Eura Mobil uses a low-frame chassis from Al-Ko instead of the original frame behind the power car. This saves 200 kilograms in weight and also enables the implementation of a basement. The double floor under the chic plank pattern of the interior is 19 centimeters high and holds a lot of luggage and equipment.

Face-to-face seating group

The furnishings are kept in muted colors and well-designed, at the front there is an L-shaped or a so-called face-to-face seating group on which the dinner guests sit opposite one another. If you want to get to the driver's cab, you can fold up one side of the table top or slide it over its slide rails.

A special feature of the Contura is the large sunlight roof above the seating area, which provides panoramic views of the mountain peaks or the starry sky. In the middle of the car there is the kitchen with a 160-liter refrigerator in slim tower format as well as a gas stove with sink and the bathroom with a separate shower and toilet. The door in front of the toilet can combine both and increase the space available for personal hygiene. The bedroom is located in the rear, with either two longitudinally arranged single beds or a height-adjustable and free-standing queen-size bed, including a rear garage.

The Eura Mobil is powered by the 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel, which uses Adblue injection to bring the nitrogen oxides to the skin. 22 liters of the urea solution are on board, the diesel tank holds 65 liters. The basic engine develops 143 HP (105 kW), the more powerful and extra-chargeable version has 177 HP (130 kW).

On top of that, different floor plans are new for the integrated Integra Line series, the particularly noteworthy 660 EB has two-meter-long single beds in the rear and an additional fold-down bed above the L-shaped seating area in the front. It rolls on a Fiat Ducato and costs at least 76,780 euros.

Seven sleepers at Forster

Forster, the entry-level brand belonging to Eura Mobil, is making its debut with the special edition “Livin 'Up” with seven layouts and extra-wide doors and passageways. The basic versions are only equipped with the small Fiat diesel 120 PS / 88 kW). A new floor plan in the seven-meter alcove model 699 offers seven beds thanks to a double bunk bed and the reclining area in the alcove. The Livin 'Up series includes a total of five alcove vehicles and two semi-integrated vehicles. Prices start at 45,000 euros. The vans (based on Fiat Ducato) are also being made more attractive as the Livin'-Up edition, with three layouts available for between 33,000 and 36,290 euros.

Karmann

The third brand under the Eura-Mobil umbrella is Karmann. For the new season, the presents the Davis 630 with a 1.6 by 1.9 meter fold-down bed in the rear, under which bikes and even a motorcycle or scooter can be transported. For sleeping, it can be lowered to 1.2 meters, and for transport it hangs directly under the ceiling. Washroom and kitchen are also on board, 43,660 euros are due for this Davis.

Davis with pop-top roof

The Davis View series, which is offered with identical layouts, is completely new, but not unknown. The name suggests a view, because this Davis integrates an additional pop-up roof with tent walls and two more sleeping places in its high roof. The lying area up there is 1.8 by 1.2 meters, generously cut plastic windows allow a perfect view of the surrounding landscape.

Davis 4x4

The third innovation from Karman is the Davis 4x4 on the all-wheel drive Ford Transit, which despite its short length of six meters offers two single longitudinal beds in the rear. The usual dinette behind the driver's seats is no longer necessary. Instead, a narrow folding table is mounted on the wall of the washroom that has been moved forward. Karmann calls this solution a “bar seating group”, in which the driver and front passenger have to turn their chairs in order to be able to have breakfast in a narrow space. The kitchen has also been made smaller, and anyone who demands easier access to the lengthways bed has to die a death.

Just in time for the start of the season, after almost two years of construction, Eura Mobil completed the new “Forum” presentation center on the premises in Sprendlingen. It is used for customer care and advice, but not for sales. 50 motorhomes can be exhibited in an area of 3000 square meters. The investment of seven million euros became necessary after the previous forum was completely destroyed in a fire in August 2014. (ampnet / mk)
