Benedictine Abbey Maria Laach

The Abbey Church of Maria Laach is one of the best preserved and outstanding Romanesque buildings in Germany. This is mainly due to the fact that the abbey church was almost completely spared from later renovations. The monastery was built in the 11th century and some of the local Laacher tuff was used.

Hiking trails

The region around the German Volcano Road has opened up the volcanic landscape with themed hiking trails. Volcanism and geological history always play a central role. The hiking trails lead to the maar lakes, over the volcanic mountains and into old chimneys - without any danger, because the volcanic activity has taken a break. The "cave path" in Brohltal, the "dream path Booser Maar" or the "volcanic experience path" in Strohn are just three examples of volcanic hiking experiences.
